Food Connect’s record for July

Food Connect, the fruit and veggies box service for which I’m a volunteer City Cousin (ie folks can collect their boxes from my house) has just sent their monthly report for environmental and social impacts and in summary:

-  over the month of July the social and environmental impact has been:

  • Households/week: 180
  • City Cousins: 19
  • Price to farmers: 40c/$
  • Organic or chemical free: 100%
  • Food miles: 212 km

I get a box every two weeks at a cost of $35 a box.  So, using their figures, that’s $14 of my box money going to the farmers and $21 to Food Connect (admin, handling, boxes, delivery).  And if I want to put off getting a box for another week or manage my account in some other way I can do all that on the web as the service allows customers to directly manage the frequency and choice of box.  So it’s quite flexible.

Go the farmers,
