I’m outa here; looking for someone to sit in the saddle here
Dear Fellow Travellers
I’m leaving Oz for a while.
Two energy-full folk, Jess and Skye, full of verve and wit, will soon be able to give the tours of the house in my place.
I’m sorting out who will live here.
Would you like to savour the rain water, the daily gifts of the sun to run the place and all that’s here . . . there’s Bob, Pesky, Ginger and the stylish, beautiful (“I run my own race”) Cleo to look after, too – my four chooks.
And my dream of cooling Oz’s cities by a degree by 2020 looks as tho’, after a couple of years of design, discussion, and trials – that dream for our cities looks as tho’ it’s got enough momentum to catch on and might just get done without me having to be here.
Why go then, you may ask?
Well, its the call to get back to the edge.
I remember being alone on deck during a cyclone off Gladstone, my mates all curled up drunk below, too sick to care what happened. The birds a zimming around the waves higher than the boat, and them, me, solitude and the sound of the wind as the boat climbed way up the hills of water then way down. Living at its best. The night of that beautiful drawn out moment, the simple beauty of it’s come back and I want it, again. Gentleness. A smile in the wind; a walk down a strange road; simple things . . . what more can one ask for?
Enough of this computer. More of that.
So if anyone’s interested in living in Sydney’s Sustainable House, having a laugh with Bob early in the morning, savouring Cleo’s gentle strength, and listening to the rain on the roof knowing it’s going into the tank for your pleasure, and you’re in a place that’s connected to our lovely Earth – do contact me here on my blog.
You’ld be at home here if you love Mozart, Schubert, chooks, growing things, gardening, living simply with a bit of style amidst the sirens and glass and energy of the heart of the Emerald City all around you . . . and so many books . . .
Get in touch on this blog if you’re interested and let’s see if we can work something out.
Time to go . . .
With laughter, a song in my heart and curiousity about what’s around the corner . . .
Michael
Sergio; thanks for a lovely reply and for getting in touch; let’s see what’s possible; email me and we can skype, perhaps? Michael
Dear Michael,
Firstly i’d like to congratulate you on your accomplishment of creating enough momentum to meet your dream of cooling Oz by a degree without you even here in this country, but what is to happen to all those (cough cough) who don’t see things clearly as yourself and have become accustomed to flicking to your blog to borrow thoughts and idea’s.
Get out there and see the world for the beauty she really is, but please take us with you and let us experience the world through your eyes as you’ve shared your experiences here in OZ.
If your travels involve ridding yourself from technology then send your loyal readers an old fashioned telegram which I’d be honoured to upload to this Blog, this can be one of many inherited duties if chosen to take on the ropes at the worlds first sustainable house.
There are a number i reason why I’d like to be considered to look after the sustainable house or ground zero as I like to think of it.
Firstly and not the least I love and being woken up by the chirps of birds every morning, it reminds me of my younger days when I used to visit my grand folks up in the hunter valley when they had there property, I believe your chickens would provide just that environment without having to drive 3 hours, further polluting the our sick mother (nature).
I’ve always enjoyed reading but find it hard as I spend most of my free time commuting to and from work each day, your home would reduce the 5 hours travelled to only one which could be spent savouring your collection of books and listening to the odd siren in the background.
However the unique voice of the Emerald City will not bother me because I will always have Mozart and Schubert to drain it out.
I have a beautiful kind hearted fiance Emma who shares the same love of the environment, and 9 month daughter Sienna who’d adore the chooks, and a bub on the way who would all prosper from ground zero.
Well I got to go now as it’s time to get ready to head into work for another day, you know we can’t all explore the world and fill the songs in our our heart, society has been set up to not only get us to pollute but to restrain us all from enjoying the simple things in life.
At least I get to see the stars every morning!
