Scenes from Fremantle book launch and conversation
On Monday night this week Fremantle City Mayor Brad Pettit and I had a conversation with over 100 people at the inspiring Replant nursery in Wray Street, Fremantle.
Replant saves native grass trees from being destroyed by bulldozers clearing land for housing.
We sat surrounded by these trees, many several hundred years old, as the clear evening light came down on us and we talked, building up our hunger for the locally grown food awaiting us outside. It was also the opportunity for us to launch my new book, Sustainable Food, in Western Australia; thank you all.
And a big thank you to Ecoburbia and Grow in Freo who put the night on; great venue, great vibe and such good local tucker.
Here are some scenes from that beautiful moment.
Heh, was just doing research into an essay for my Sustainability studies, and came across this post which includes me in one of the photos.
Essay is on making a city less automobile dependent and I’m mentioning your verge/road veggie garden idea as a way of traffic calming, and also green-orientated development.
Was a great night last year, thanks for visiting Freo!
Hi Michael,
Was a pleasure and an honour hosting your gig. Very timely pep talk. Lifted the spirits and reminded me of the power and support of community.
Have a great chrissy etc and look forward to catching up when you’ve got a little more time.
