Sydney City Council asked me to make a plan to make the whole suburb of Chippendale sustainable.

It’s not just a plan for this suburb; it can be used to make any suburb sustainable – it’s free and you’re welcome to put it to work where you are.

Now the Plan can be read on mobiles, kindles and is very easy to search, use and tweet. Get it here:

theplan.sustainablehouse.com…

Enjoy.

You can see some of the folks who support the Plan.

Please sign the petition to have the Plan exhibited for public comment. We want the Plan and there’s strong community support for it from here and other people across Sydney, Australia and overseas.

If we can get the Plan made here anyone may use it as an example to persuade other councils and governments to make a Plan to sustain the suburb where they live – if you’re reading this in Melbourne or Texas, USA – sign the petition for the Plan and you’ll be able to use a Plan like this where you live and work, too.

I’m the City Cousin for Chippendale.

I love knowing that of the $35 I pay for my box every 40 cents in those dollars is going straight to the farmers.

Food Connect, the fruit and veggies box service for which I’m a volunteer City Cousin (ie folks can collect their boxes from my house) has just sent their monthly report for environmental and social impacts and in summary:

- over the month of July the social and environmental impact has been:

Households/week: 180

City Cousins: 19

Price to farmers: 40c/$

Organic or chemical free: 100%

Food miles: 212 km

For more information: sydney.foodconnect.com…

To see if there’s a City Cousin near where you live or work: sydney.foodconnect.com…

I get a box every two weeks at a cost of $35 a box. So, using their figures, that’s $14 of my box money going to the farmers and $21 to Food Connect (admin, handling, boxes, delivery). And if I want to put off getting a box for another week or manage my account in some other way I can do all that on the web as the service allows customers to directly manage the frequency and choice of box. So it’s quite flexible.

Go the farmers,

M
